My Thoughts on the Civil War

 Hello Mother,

I am not sure if you are going to be getting this message or even if its you. It's been so long since we have talked. I escaped from the south and became a black union solider. I have only fought in one war so far for the Union. The journey from the south was a tough one, evading the slave catchers and almost avoiding the whole southern community. I just made it in time to the Union and offered my help to them. They gladly accepted and soon enough we had our own black regiment. We were quickly deployed to the battle of Gettysburg. Those three days were the worst if have ever experienced. I lost almost all my friends to the confederates. But at the end it was worth it, a well deserved win. The civil war was a bloody battle but was fought for a good cause, to free us negros from slavery and the terrors of the south. Hope to find and see you soon mother.
