Today I am writing about a short story called "The Erne from the Coast" by T. O. Beachcroft.
“The Erne from the Coast” by T. O. Beachcroft
This story is about Harry, a thirteen-year-old Scottish boy in Scotland. Michael, one of the best shepherds in town, decides to leave to see his brother for a while so Mr. Thurburn, Harry’s dad, puts Harry in charge of the sheep. One night an erne takes one of the sheep from the herd when Harry goes to tell his father the story his father doesn’t believe him one bit. Harry is later determined to prove to his father that he isn’t lying and sets out to kill the bird but when Harry and the bird finally meet the erne kills Tassie, Harry’s dog, but Harry gets revenge, proving to his father that he is telling the truth.
Harry is transformed in more than one way by the end of the story. While Harry is thought to be lying about the Erne taking one of the sheep, he decides to show that he isn’t lying. Harry is determined to prove that he is telling the truth. Harry is emotionally affected when his father doesn’t believe his word. Harry is determined to show that he isn't lying and is telling the truth. In the end, Harry decides to prove himself and not let one person who doubts him, stop him from telling the truth. A decision in the past that has changed who I am today would be joining a club soccer team. While this might not seem that important, to me it truly is. In this experience, even my parents didn’t think I was going to be able to make the team, but I did. In this experience, I got to show my perseverance and thirst to be on the team. It has transformed me in one major way. One should never give up or lose hope even if your closest friends or family don’t believe in you.
Never give up!
